Kylie Jenner faces backlash over Kylie Skin hand sanitizer

Is Kylie Jenner’s branding getting out of hand?

After releasing her new Kylie Skin hand sanitizer ($7), the 23-year-old beauty mogul is facing accusations of “profiting off the pandemic.”

“My @kylieskin hand sanitizer is here!! 80% alcohol, fast drying, and formulated with glycerin to prevent dryness!’” Jenner tweeted to announce Tuesday’s launch, with momager Kris Jenner adding, “’Kylie Skin Hand Sanitizer is here! So many incredible benefits in this product.”

While Jenner’s products typically fly off the shelves, the germ-killing spritz has yet to sell out.

Following the product’s launch, many took to Twitter to accuse Jenner of cashing in on the COVID-19 crisis. One wrote, “Kylie really made kylie skin hand sanitizer…………. like ? Let’s profit off a pandemic,” while another added, “Wow making a buck off covid. Low.”

“This feels like the spiritual successor to the [Kendall] Jenner Pepsi commercial,” another added, referring to the 2017 backlash over her supermodel sister’s famously “tone-deaf” advertisement.

Other critiques of the scandalous sanitizer took a lighter tone, with one writing, “Just what I needed! Pink sanitizer,” and another joking, “I used Kylie Jenner hand sanitizer and now all my germs are snatched.”

Despite the backlash, plenty of fans jumped to Jenner’s defense.

“Hope you’re having the same energy for all the corporations who didn’t make masks and hand sanitizers that now are,” one person wrote, referencing the many private companies who released their own high-end sanitizers in the wake of last spring’s widespread shortage.

Other fans were eager to have the pale pink product on hand, with one writing, “can’t wait to use it!!”

It’s not the first time a member of the Kardashian-Jenner crew has become involved in a COVID-related controversy; Kim Kardashian was similarly accused of using the pandemic for profit when she added face masks to her Skims line in March.

Throughout the pandemic, the famous family has repeatedly made headlines for their “tone-deaf” activities, from their extravagant Christmas celebrations to Kim’s private island birthday bash.

A rep for Kylie Skin did not immediately respond to Page Six Style’s request for comment.
